Birds and Aromatheraphy

When we were making the lavender pouches for the summer fair, one of our Year 6 students suggested we leave out the leftover twigs for the birds to use to make nests which is a lovely idea.

It turns out that some birds (including blue tits which we see frequently in the school garden) deliberately select medicinal plants from the Lamiaceae family like mint and lavender in order to disinfect their nests: here is an article from the BBC website if you would like to read more.
